Galicia shares training #kit on #opensource for #NGOs

option_c The government of Galicia (Spain) has made available conference videos, presentation slides and training material that focus on the use of free and open source software by Non-Governmental Organisations.

The ethical and philosophical characteristics of this type of software fits well with NGOs, including collaboration and community-building, argues Amtega, the region’s agency for technological modernisation. “However, ICT adoption in general is not always easy for small and medium sized organisations”, Amtega writes.

The materials are collected and created by Amtega together with the Directorate General for Youth Participation and Volunteerism. Last autumn, Amtega organised eight workshops to show NGOs how to implement free software solutions.

Two of these workshops focussed on the use of the Drupal content management system. The training series ended with a conference on 22 October.

Development cooperation

Amtega posted the videos of the conference presentations on Youtube. Talks includes a presentation on the use of free software in the prisons of Galicia, a presentation on community radio, and on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in development cooperation.

On its Mancomun free software portal, Amtega is also making available the documentation for the 8 workshops and all the conference presentations.
