GFOSS is committed to equal opportunities and equal treatment regardless of gender for its staff, collaborators and everyone who takes part in its activities, and to embedding the gender dimension in the projects and material it produces.

Commitment

Why this plan exists

The Open Technologies Alliance (GFOSS), a non-profit organisation whose shareholders are 38 universities and research centres, is committed to ensuring equal opportunities and equal treatment regardless of gender for its staff, its collaborators and everyone taking part in its activities, and to integrating the gender dimension into the projects and the material it produces. The Plan is aligned with Greek Laws 4443/2016, 4604/2019 and 4808/2021, the EU Gender Equality Strategy and the Horizon Europe requirements for Gender Equality Plans. It is valid for three years and is communicated to all staff.

Implementation

Gender Equality Officer

The Board of Directors appoints a Gender Equality Officer, who coordinates the implementation of the Plan, with working time and resources covered by the Organisation’s budget.

Implementation

Data and monitoring

The gender composition of the staff, the Board of Directors and the committees, the applications and recruitments per vacancy notice, and the speakers at events are recorded annually in anonymised form. The Officer submits a short annual progress report to the Board of Directors.

Recruitment

Gender-neutral wording in vacancy notices, an explicit reference to the commitment to equal opportunities, and structured evaluation criteria.

Measure

Representation

Balanced participation in speaker panels and event committees of the Organisation, and a recommendation to the shareholder institutions to nominate members to its bodies in a gender-balanced way.

Measure

Projects and content

Consideration of the gender dimension in the design of European and research proposals, and use of inclusive language in educational material and in communication.

Measure

Participation of women in open technologies

At least one activity per year promoting the participation of women and girls in STEM, educational robotics and open source communities, in cooperation with the member institutions.

Measure

Working environment

Flexible and remote working for all staff regardless of gender, and zero tolerance of any form of discrimination or harassment, in accordance with Law 4808/2021.

Review

Evaluation & revision

The Plan is evaluated and revised at the end of the three-year period on the basis of the annual reports. Interim adjustments are approved by the Board of Directors.
